| Ermac is an entity composed of legions of dead souls created by Shao Kahn, most likely out of souls he had previously taken. Ermac refers to himself in the plural rather than in the singular. Ermac served as one of Shao Kahn's greatest warriors, taking even more souls for his collection, and stays secretively in the shadows of the last Earthrealm Mortal Kombat tournament, which Liu Kang won. He is also noted for participating in the invasion of Earthrealm. On one mission for Shao Kahn in the Netherrealm, Ermac becomes acquainted with Shujinko. However, after Shao Kahn's defeat and subsequent loss of power, Ermac remains under Kahn's control and wanders Outworld without instructions. During the events of MK: Deadly Alliance, Kenshi finds the wandering Ermac and frees them from Kahn's control. Ermac's newfound freedom enables them to choose their own destiny and they decide to repent for their earlier ways and become a force for good. After making this decision, Ermac meets a warrior soul who, like Kenshi, understands their suffering - Liu Kang, who is not only in need of another ally, but also of assistance in freeing his enslaved comrades. Seizing the opportunity to atone for the evil he committed in Kahn's name, Ermac helps Liu Kang, and the pair successfully free Liu's allies from Onaga's control. In his ending in Mortal Kombat: Deception, Shujinko describes Ermac as being capable of battling all five by himself with relative ease. In Ermac's ending in MK: Armageddon, it is said that after defeating Blaze, the many souls contained within Ermac are released and form new bodies; they are connected to each other in a collective consciousness, making Ermac no longer a fusion of souls, but an army.John Turk plays Ermac in UMK3 and MKT. Ermac appears in the film MK: Annihilation played by John Medlen. He also appears in one episode in MK: Defenders of the Realm, voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.Ermac originally appeared in the Arcade version of the first Mortal Kombat game as a glitch where Scorpion, Sub-Zero and the hidden character Reptile were displayed red instead of yellow, blue and green respectflly. As a result of this error, an internal error counter indicated as "ERMAC" (ERror MACro) was incremented. | |
